BIRGITTA HANSSON

As a child in Sweden, Birgitta Hansson learned from her craftsman father the joy of working "heart in hand". Although she pursued the study of textile arts and sculpture, it was painting that became her passion.

In 1980 she moved from Scandinavia to South Florida. Her new life in America inspired her to explore other forms of expression and brought a new dimension to her work: vibrant, powerful archetypal imagery. Hansson is a symbolist who is colorful, visceral, soulful, and socio-political. Her work has a strong European following and is exhibited annually in Sweden during Art Week at Osterlen. Her paintings hang in the government building in Malmö, her hometown.

Her American collectors often comment on the amazing diversity of her work, paintings that emerge from her brilliant imagination and rich cross-cultural experience. She is represented by Duco Art Gallery in Breda, Holland and Dharma Studio in Miami.
